Account Deletion Policy
People ask us to delete their account. Here is the honest answer, including the part that is not what you want to hear.
If you have had a visit, we cannot delete your record
Once you have been seen, your chart is a medical record, and federal and Delaware law require us to keep it for a set number of years. That obligation does not go away because you ask, and we are not permitted to honor a request to destroy it.
This is not a technical limitation and it is not a preference. A clinician who deletes a medical record on request loses the ability to answer what was prescribed, what was tested, and what was advised — which is exactly the record that protects you if something later goes wrong.
What you can do instead
- Get a copy. You can download your complete record from the app at any time, or ask us to send it to you or to another clinician. This is your right under federal law and we will not delay it.
- Stop being a patient. You can stop at any time without giving a reason. Nothing further is charged.
- Turn off contact. Text reminders and emailed documents can be switched off in the app, immediately.
- Correct what is wrong. If something in your record is inaccurate, tell us. You have the right to ask for an amendment, and if we disagree you have the right to have your statement added to the record.
- See who has looked. You can ask for an accounting of disclosures — a list of who your information has been shared with.
If you never had a visit
If you signed up and never completed a visit, there may be no medical record to retain. Write to admin@ehr.ownithealthcare.com and we will tell you exactly what exists and remove what we are permitted to remove.
What is deleted either way
- Your sign-in credentials stop working as soon as you ask.
- Your payment card is held by our payment processor, not by us, and can be removed on request. We never store card numbers.
- Marketing and reminder contact stops immediately.
How to ask
Write to admin@ehr.ownithealthcare.com or call 302-615-6105. Tell us what you want removed and we will answer within 30 days with what we did and what we are required to keep, and why.
